Hot Fingers doesn’t send your data anywhere. It has no networking code — nothing goes to Munks or anyone else. No analytics, no crash reporting, no accounts, no telemetry. The only link in the app opens this website in your own browser.
On your Mac, and only your Mac, Hot Fingers reads: running processes’ names, paths, CPU time, and memory,
using macOS’s libproc; your Mac’s chip and palm-rest temperatures and fan speeds, from the
SMC and IOKit sensors; and your battery’s charge state and power draw.
Hot Fingers keeps a local history file at ~/Library/Application Support/HotFingers/history.sqlite.
It holds per-process CPU and memory samples for processes doing meaningful work, kept for 30 days and then
rolled into hourly averages; your Mac’s chip temperature, sampled once a minute and kept for 7 days; and a
log of your own Kill, Snooze, and Ignore actions, kept so a future version can use it to score better. Your
preferences live in macOS’s standard preferences system, the same place every Mac app keeps them.
Delete the HotFingers folder inside ~/Library/Application Support, and the
history above goes with it. Your preferences live separately, in ~/Library/Preferences —
dragging the app itself to the Trash doesn’t remove them, since macOS doesn’t delete an app’s preference
files just because the app is gone. If you installed the fan-speed helper below, removing it is a
separate step too — Hot Fingers doesn’t yet offer an in-app uninstaller for either.
Setting fan speeds needs root, which the Hot Fingers app itself doesn’t run as. If you choose to install the
optional helper, it runs as root on your Mac and talks to the app through one local file,
/Users/Shared/HotFingers/fan-request. Nothing about this leaves your Mac.
Hot Fingers uses local macOS notifications. No notification service outside your Mac is involved.
This site, hotfingers.munks.app, uses Google Analytics (GA4) in production to see which pages people read. It sets cookies in your browser and reports things like which page you landed on, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you’re on. It doesn’t check your browser’s Do Not Track setting. You can opt out across every site you visit with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. The page also loads the Inter typeface from Google Fonts, which receives standard request data — like your IP address — when the font loads. This page has no forms; nothing here collects your name, email, or any other personal detail directly. Our hosting provider, Laravel Cloud, keeps its own server logs under its own policy — we don’t control or set their retention.
All traffic to this site is encrypted in transit with TLS. Hot Fingers the app has no server to secure — what it reads and stores stays on your Mac, protected the same way the rest of your files are.
For the analytics data this website collects: email help@munks.app to ask what we hold, correct it, or delete it, or use Google’s opt-out browser add-on to stop Google Analytics from collecting it in the first place. For app data: it only ever exists on your own Mac, so there’s no copy anywhere else to ask us for — see “How to delete it” above for how to remove it yourself.
Our website and app are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Hot Fingers isn’t downloadable yet and isn’t on the Mac App Store, so there’s no update mechanism to describe. If that changes — automatic updates, for instance, which would fetch an update feed from this site — we’ll update this policy first.
If this policy changes, we’ll post the new version here and update the effective date above.
